Sports Medicine & Athletic Training

Coaches' Guidelines

Coaches at TUHS are certified in first aid and CPR by the American Red Cross.  It is the coaches’ responsibility to carry their medical kit and student emergency cards to all home and away games.  In the event that an athlete is injured at an away game or a practice where the athletic trainer is not on campus, a TUHS accident report must be filled out and turned into the athletic trainer.  The athlete should also see the athletic trainer upon returning to school if possible.

Coaches are also responsible for bringing the medical kit to the training room when it needs to be re-stocked.

If athletes are seen by a physician, they must have a release before they are allowed to return to play.  If a coach is given a note, it would be appreciated if they passed it on or gave a copy to the Athletic Department or the athletic trainer.

If it is at all possible, please have injured athletes seen by the athletic trainer before they are seen by a physician.
